Beatnik Studios is presenting a special exhibition on Friday August 31st featuring artwork by Christine Hodgins and Jack Alvarez in cooperation with Milk Gallery. The show was planned as a collaboration between the two artists to explore similarities and departures in each of their approaches to process and form.
Christine Hodgins presents large scale drawings in pen on paper from her series titled “Release”. The drawings are observations on natural forms and interior mindscapes wherein the frenetic energy of the line reflects a search for escape, renewal and solace.
Jack Alavarez has taken familiar symbols and icons and placed them out of context. The paintings stir one’s perception in an exploration of elemental design, presenting an alternative visual experience of imagery that we often filter through our own subconscious and file away in our own personal categories.
The reception, from 6:00 -9:00 pm, will offer an opportunity for friends to gather and celebrate the brilliant life and talent of Christine Hodgins, who has left us all too soon.
Following the art opening will be a rare "Blue Moon" concert featuring Richie Lawrence and the Yolos, with special guests from San Francisco, Nearly Beloved.
PLEASE NOTE: Beatnik Studios will be open for the Preview Thursday art walk on September 6th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. We are NOT OPEN on any SECOND SATURDAYS! Our studio is booked up for private events.
