December Gallery Show at Beatnik

Hi Friends!
Amazingly enough, our next opening is already coming up. Next Friday, November 26th will be the Last Friday opening for a group show in the main gallery featuring Mark A. Kooy, Judy Keen and Suzon Lucore. Yes it's Black Friday, so why not add some beautiful art to your holiday shopping list?

Mark Kooy is a fine art instructor as well as a professional freelance art consultant and illustrator. He has worked as a professional artist for over 25 years. Working in a variety of media including watercolor, metals, digital prints, ceramics, and acrylics to name a few, Mark’s art is an eclectic mix of his interests in the natural environment and historical and contemporary cultures.

Judy Keen is a glass artist working in the field of fused and kiln-formed glass. Her designs include vases, bowls, platters, art pieces and wall art. Many are embellished with different elements such as dichroic glass, metallics, and paints. She uses a variety of techniques to achieve different looks, including sandblasting, layering for depth, raised designs and bas relief imagery. She loves to use vibrant color combinations to create a variety of unique glass pieces.

Suzon Lucore's painting style is expressionistic and she is best known for large-scale acrylic portraits. She graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts in 1988 and has been a teacher, director for an arts council, illustrator, graphic designer, writer, and publisher among other things. You can see a few of her paintings on permanent display at Butch -N- Nellie's located at the corner of 19th & I St. or GROSSI Florist at 7th and J St. in Sacramento.

There will be music by The Dreaded Diamond and Exquisite Corps. It will be a unique, vibrant and dynamic show and we hope to see you all there!

Second Saturday

Beatnik's November Second Saturday will be a smorgasbord of photography!

In the front gallery we have our exhibit by the FOCUS group. The theme of the show is “Art For Acres”. The FOCUS group visited Soil Born Farms and photographed anything from livestock to beekeepers in a fine art format. The show is to benefit Soil Born Farms, which allows youth and adults to rediscover and participate in a system of food production and distribution that promotes healthy living. For more information please visit www.soilborn.org.

In the back gallery we have Manila Extract, a show by senior CSUS photography students. Each piece is inspired by an envelope with unknown contents prepared by a previous photography student--the challenge being to create a work that reflects both the artist and the ordinary, strange, controversial or beautiful objects they find within their envelope. The show encompasses a wide variety of subject matter and styles and promises to provide something for everyone.

We hope to see you at Beatnik from 6-9 this Saturday, November 13th to enjoy these two great photography exhibitions!
