There has been lots of activity around the changing of the years.  It has been hard to keep up with the absolute whirlwind.  Beatnik has been changing fast and growing up.  We purchased a new building, hosted our 5th annual craft fair, began a new era of gallery exhibitions, worked and worked some more.  There have been lots of blood sweat and tears in the past couple months but we are highly motivated to push on and continue to build our dream.  I can't say thank you enough to all of the people who have helped along the way.  We couldn't possibly be here without continued love and support from our friends and family.  Please drop by and chat any time.  We love our city and our community and will be staying for a long time!
Love and Thanks,
The beatniks

JAZZ NIGHT

Jazz night at Beatnik is the perfect way to unwind and forget about the wild and mad world for an evening.  It's a unique and moving live music experience unlike anything else around.  The casual atmosphere is perfect for catching up with old friends and making new ones.  It's an intimate and cozy night where you can share some laughs and hear some world class live music.  I can't say enough about the work from Jeff Alkire and Mindy Giles to organize this awesome event and line up these top notch artists.  Every month I am amazed by the talent and passion of the musicians.  Every month I get excited when 3rd Thursday is around the corner.

Third Thursday Jazz Nights

Beatnik Studios Third Thursday Jazz Soiree featuring the Jeff Alkire Quartet

@ Beatnik Studios August 15

(Sacramento, CA) Beatnik Studio's "Third Thursday Jazz Nights Series,"  the art+music+food soiree really brings it this month on Thursday, August 15.
The evening's performance will be recorded for future CD/iTunes release.

Alto sax man and composer, Jeff Alkire leads a heavy all star group of players this night. Alkire toured with Ray Charles for nine years and has many famous fans, including
Joe Farrell who said Alkire is "One of the most soulful alto players on the planet."
Here is Jeff with Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding on his album, One Summer in Winters : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7L0uCkSwPU

The Jeff Alkire Quartet is:

Jeff Alkire: Alto Saxophone (Ray Charles, Esperanza Spalding, John Lee Hooker, Terry Gibbs, Joe Farrell, Charlie Haden, Art Lande,                     Eddie Marshall, John Patitucci)    www.jeffalkire.com
Tim Metz: Drums ( David Garibaldi, Rufus Reid, Conrad Herwig, Lynn Seaton, Don Braden, Dr. David Demsey, Steve Wilson, Horacee Arnold, John Riley, Spiraling, Nova Social)
John Stowell: Guitar ( Dave Freisen, Milt Jackson, Lionel Hampton, Art Farmer, Conte Condoli, Herb Ellis, Bill Watrous, Mundell Lowe, Richie Cole, Paul Horn, Dave Liebman

“John Stowell plays jazz, but he doesn’t use any of the clichés; he has an incredible originality. John is a master creator.” --Larry Coryell

Andrew Emmer: Bass (Lee Konitz, Jeff Clayton, Allison Miller)

The level of musicianship on Third Thursdays Jazz Nights equals the elegance and classic late night feel of the venue. Renowned painter Jack Alvarez, who was featured  at the gallery last year, has had three of his paintings grace the covers of alto sax player/composer Jeff Alkire's albums. Alkire plans to use one of Alvarez's painting for this new album.

Celebrating five years along the Broadway Corridor/Tower District, Beatnik continues to bring genuine cultural life to the area. Curated by Kelly O'Connell, Beatnik presents the work of exceptional artists, many of whom are world renowned, but new to this gallery. The  current art exhibition " Mountain and Tessellation" by Mehran Mesbah runs through
 September 19.
