(Sacramento, CA) Beatnik Studio's "Third Thursday Jazz Nights Series," the art+music+food soiree really brings it this month on Thursday, August 15.
The evening's performance will be
recorded for future CD/iTunes release.
Alto sax man and composer, Jeff
Alkire leads a heavy all star group of players this night. Alkire
toured with Ray Charles for nine years and has many famous fans, including
Joe Farrell who said Alkire is
"One of the most soulful alto players on the planet."

The level of musicianship
on Third Thursdays Jazz Nights equals the elegance and classic late
night feel of the venue. Renowned painter Jack Alvarez, who was featured
at the gallery last year, has had three of his paintings grace
the covers of alto sax player/composer Jeff Alkire's albums. Alkire plans
to use one of Alvarez's painting for this new album.
Celebrating five
years along the Broadway Corridor/Tower District, Beatnik continues to bring
genuine cultural life to the area. Curated by Kelly O'Connell, Beatnik presents
the work of exceptional artists, many of whom are world renowned, but new to
this gallery. The current art exhibition " Mountain and
Tessellation" by Mehran Mesbah
runs through
September 19.

Personae: Theatrical Self-portraits by Alan Dismuke
Beatnik Studios is presenting a special Final Friday reception on Friday October 26th featuring photographs by Beatnik Gallery Director, Alan Dismuke. The artists reception will be followed by an all ages concert at 9:00 pm featuring Honyock, Awkward Lemon and Adrian Bellue.
The photographs in this exhibition are staged auto-portraits that explore the duality of the human psyche and the concept of anima and animus - the inner balance of yin and yang. The series, begun in 1990, offers up a panorama of cultural caricatures portrayed as individuals, as couples, and as groups.
The characters address issues of body image, gender identity, vanity, sexuality, and the considerable influence of advertising in our lives. We are presented daily with a barrage of deception that imposes an ideal notion of beauty, security, or well being that is fully fabricated. Perhaps it is deception that lies at the very heart of “image making” in contemporary culture and commerce.
Consider it a masquerade ball, a series of tableaux vivants to corrupt the binary code of gender in the spirit of Rrose Selavy.
